This week in music…22nd January

Sleigh Bells releases another track from their new album, “Reign of Terror.” The track is called, “The Comeback Kid,” which will become an instant download if you purchase the album through iTunes.  “To me, the ‘Comeback Kid’ melodies are straight R&B,” says singer Alexis Krauss. “But we don’t do the melodies with an R&B affect,” she continues, “and we don’t do them the way a traditional pop group would do them.” Check out this song as well as the first single which came out late last year entitled: “Born to Lose,” on the bands soundcloud at:

Coachella is officially sold out. One of the most popular festivals in the country has sold out of tickets for their two weekend long festival within three hours of sale. The line up was exquisite ranging from The Black Keys to Swedish House Mafia. There are a few come-back performance from artist who have laid low for a few years like “Mazzy Star” and “Pulp.” As we approach the festival we will talk more about what bands you should go see and why.

Next week January 27th one of the worlds hottest producers/DJ/Mixers will be at Stereolive. I am of course talking about Calvin Harris which is now known for making the song, “We Found Love,” as well as having other club hits like, “I’m Not Alone,” and “You Used To Hold Me.”

One of the artists returning to the festival is Miike Snow. They have announced that they will release an album later this year. They also played at ACL at 2009 and perhaps they might stop by promoting their new album. We have not heard much from the album but they have released two tracks. “Paddling Out,” and “Devil’s Work,” are the two which are on the bands soundcloud. There is also a remix of “Devil’s Works” by Alex Metric up so make sure you check it out at:

The Avett Brothers performed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon a cover of Bob Dylan’s song  “One Too Many Mornings,” originally from 1964’sThe Times They Are a-Changin’. This performance was astounding and was one of the few Dylan covers that surpasses the original. Check it out at:

The Ting Tings have their new album, “Songs From Nowheresville,” finally after their catchy anthem, “That’s Not My Name,” the duo returns February 27th. They will be touring the area and have made Houston their only stop in Texas. They will be performing at Fitzgerald’s on April 20th returning with a catchy lyrical scheme and vocals as well as their awesome 80s themed beats. Check out this song from their new album called, “Hang it Up.”

Last week Lana Del Rey got told off by multiple musicians and the “American Audience,” when she performed the track “Video Games,” from her yet to be released album ‘Born to Die’ which comes out January 31st. I was shocked that she was invited to perform on SNL since the artists that are invited are usually well established performers. Check out the her performance at:

This past Wednesday we finally were able to get the release of Skrillex’s collaboration track with the remaining members of The Doors  on the film Re-Generation. The film includes Pretty Lights and also The Crystal Method. Here is Skrillex’s track entitled, “Breakin’ a Sweat.”

If you missed Skrillex’s show last year at Verizon check out this review of the show with 12th Planet on my blog:
