Summer Playlist 2013

Summer playlist are a thing that must be done. There has to be a soundtrack to the summer fling, the beach, parks, break-ups, etc. Luckily for you here we have thirty tracks. Each contributor to It Sound Better Live has chosen their summer songs and hope you enjoy them as much as we do. Click on the name of the author to see their contribution to It Sounds Better Live and the song to be directed to a link if one exists.

Another Texas summer has come and gone. Summer used to mean no school, carefree days, friends and what not. As I grew up and finished high school those days have changed now those carefree no school days turned into 8 hour work days. Thankfully amazing friends and my music makes the somber Texas heat less of a drag. Some of the songs here are about specific moments and some about the summer overall.

1. “I Always Knew” – The Vaccines

2. “On My Way Downtown” (Live) – Lucero

3. “Pickin’ Time” – Johnny Cash

4. “The Only Place” – Best Coast

5. “Do I Wanna Know” – Arctic Monkeys

6. “Sunrise” – Ryan Bingham

7. “Natural Life” – Hacienda

8. “Hustle And Cuss” – The Dead Weather

9. “Elephant” – Tame Impala

10. “This F*cking Job” – Drive-by Trucker

Cloudleaves

If there is a beat I will listen. I love all of electronica and enjoy a vast array of genres. I indulge in the many different sounds and styles that artist produce. This summer, to me, is full of trance, deep house and as much funk as one could possibly handle. The only genre that I have neglected that is dear to me is drum and bass. Needless to say the list is incomplete but rest assured the following deserve a listen.

Andrew Bayer does amazing work and has always produced tracks leaning towards high energy trance. This is a delightful change for some:

1. Andrew Bayer “Need Your Love”

Boom Jinx never fails…this track is just perfect.

2. Boom Jinx, Maor Levi & Ashley Tomberlin “When You Loved Me” [Maor Levi Club Mix]

Everything that Myon and Shane 54 touch turns into gold.  Lana del Ray’s voice plus trance equals a delightful listen. The track with Natalie Peris is just simply beautiful.

3. Lana Del Rey “Young & Beautiful” [Myon & Shane 54 Summer of Love Mix] (CDR)

4.Myon & Shane 54 with Natalie Peris — Outshine (Nigel Good Remix)

Sleepy Tom of Fool’s Gold record label has an interesting sound…a little bit of electro house but not quite:

5. Sleepy Tom “let it go”

Pretty Lights just released an album after diligently developing his own sounds for two years.  The summer would be incomplete without a listen:

6. Pretty Lights “Color of my Soul”

As Daft Punk’s “Lucky” pumps through the airways on every local radio station, the remixes will surely also begin to start. This track was above the rest…for now:

7. Daft Punk “Get Lucky” (Hotmouth vs The Frederik Edit) (I heard this on  the Lazy Rich show…idk if its even released..but i listen to it a lot lol”

Dillon Francis is so diverse so he had to be on the list. This track is fairly new and a good bit of fun.

8. Dillon Francis ft Simon Lord “Messages”

Zedd’s track “Clarity” was probably played in every dubstep set once in the past year but this Brillz remix gives it a fresh face and a bit of a change up:

9. Zedd-Clarity (Brillz Remix)

Mark Knight is amazing and will always be on my list probably as long as I have hearing.  This track in particular is quite funky:

10. Mark Knight “Your Love”

I saved myself for last because I know no one is going to read this far down…. but in case you did I have something for you. My personal top ten tracks for this summer that sum up all kinds of emotions and feelings because after all, that is hat music is all about. Enjoy the rest of your summer and enjoy this list.

  1. Get Free – Major Lazer
  2. Concert Pitch – Empire of the Sun
  3. Rill Rill – Sleigh Bells
  4. Next Time Around – Little Joy
  5. Lovesick – Peace
  6. Post Break-Up Sex – The Vaccines
  7. Leave Before The Lights Come On – Arctic Monkeys
  8. The Passenger – Iggy Pop
  9. This Modern Love – Bloc Party
  10. The District Sleeps Alone Tonight – The Postal Service

Bloc Party to Release EP This Summer

Bloc Party has been touring around the US for a while promoting their fourth studio album Four. In and interview with the Miami New Times guitarist Russell Lissack said, “We literally were just in the studio this week actually. We still need to do the vocals, but we’ve been working on six new songs. Depending on how the finished things pan out, we’re either going to put out a single or an EP. I think in June or July.”

He added, “I think all the records we’ve made have been quite eclectic, and this EP is no different. I’m not sure ultimately what songs will be released, but there’s quite a variety of songs and sounds coming up.”

Bloc Party – Kettling

When Bloc Party came out the early 2000’s held some music that was harder while the band revolutionized indie music. During that time bands were loud and progressive like System of a Down and Queens of the Stone Age.  Now they have returned playing what they were missing out on during that era.
